Valérie Aimard
“Tout a commencé l’été où le violoncelliste allemand Julius Berger est venu passer un mois à la maison. J’avais 7 ans. A la rentrée, j’ai dit “J’aimerais bien faire du violoncelle”. 15 ans plus tard, nous jouions ensemble dans la magnifique salle du Mozarteum de Salzbourg“
J’ai eu la chance que Patrick Gabard, Philippe Muller et Michel Strauss veillent sur mes années d’étude, appartenant grâce à eux à cette belle et riche école du violoncelle français.
La légende veut que l’année de mon Prix au Conservatoire de Paris, j’étais classée 2ème série au tennis. Cette légende est authentique.
Et puis, en 1992, j’ai rencontré Bernard Greenhouse, mon maître, élève de Pablo Casals, membre fondateur du Beaux-Arts Trio. Sa sincérité, la simplicité de sa technique ,son sens du phrasé et l’utilisation du temps dans ses interprétations ont bouleversé mon écoute de la musique.
Si j’avais à retenir quelques-uns des concerts qui m’ont menée dans plus de 30 pays, je choisirais ; le Triple de Beethoven avec Yuri Temirkanov et l’Orchestre de St Petersbourg, le Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps au Théâtre des Champs- Elysées à l’occasion du centenaire d’O.Messiaen, les intégrales des sonates de Beethoven avec mon compère Cédric Tiberghien, la minute trente de silence qui a suivi une pièce de Kurtag au Festival du Larzac, les tournées “Musicians from Marlboro” aux Etats-Unis.

Corey Averill
L’enseignement est une passion pour Corey. Son instrument principal est le violoncelle, avec une expérience secondaire avec le violon, l’alto et la basse.
Il a étudié le violoncelle avec Yo Yo Ma, Hamilton Cheifetz, Stephanie McDougal, Hans Jørgen Jensen, Carter Brey et le violon avec Dorothy Crow.
Corey a fréquenté le Tanglewood Institute, le Congress of Strings, et a enseigné auprès de jeunes musiciens et artistes, ainsi que de nombreuses autres organisations.
Découvrez enfin l’opus 40 de Sebastian Lee joué pour la première fois depuis bien longtemps grâce à Corey Averill. Dernier des duos pour 2 violoncelles à difficultés progressives, l’opus 40 présente de réels challenges dans son exécution. Maxim Kozlov
Maxim Kozlov est un musicien né en Russie et naturalisé Américain. Il réside à Eldersburg dans le Maryland (Etats-Unis). Maxim a été Premier violoncelle dans plusieurs formations telles que le Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, ou le South Dakota Symphony Orchestra. Il a reçu le second prix du Conservatoire National de Moscou en 1993 et est diplômé du Peabody Institute. En 2001 il participe à la Polyphony of the World en tant que membre du “Kremerata Baltica”. Il a également été membre du très apprécié Monument Piano Trio avec d’autres diplômés du Peabody Conservatory. Après s’être installé dans le Dakota du Sud, il est devenu membre du Dakota String Quartet. Maxim a également accompagné Adam Golka, Paul Sanchez et Alessio Bax entre les années 2011 et 2012 aux Dakota Sky International Piano festivals. Retrouvez sa biographie complète ici.

Antonina Zharava
Antonina Zharava est née en Biélorussie dans une famille d’artistes. Elle choisit de s’installer à Paris où elle mène de front ses activités de concertiste et de professeur. Dans son parcours international, Antonina a été inspirée par les grands professeurs en France et à l’étranger: Philippe Muller, Leon Fleischer, Pamela Frank, Frans Helmerson, Gary Hoffman.
Lauréate des concours internationaux – “Dr Louis Sigall” au Chili (2006), “Jeune soliste”, “FLAME” en France (2005), “Popper” en Hongrie (2000), “Heran” en République Tchèque (1997), elle se produit en France, Italie, Pays-Bas, Etats-Unis, ainsi que dans les pays d’Europe de l’Est. Titulaire du Certificat d’Aptitude et de la Fonction Publique, Antonina Zharava enseigne le violoncelle et la musique de chambre au Conservatoires du 6ème et du 13ème arrondissements de Paris.

Valérie Aimard
Recognized by the musical review Diapason as « an exceptionally original artist », french cellist Valérie Aimard is popular with musicians and audiences for the great sensitivity of her playing and her musical intelligence. An outstanding chamber musician, V. Aimard has performed concerts in over 30 countries.She has been invited on several occasions at the legendary Marlboro Festival (USA).
She studied with Michel Strauss and Philippe Muller at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. Encounters with illustrious musicians as David Geringas, Lluis Claret, Janos Starker, later enriched her musical personality.In 1992 she met the american cellist Bernard Greenhouse, a founding member of the Beaux Arts Trio and disciple of Pablo Casals who became her mentor.
Her broad repertoire include the complete Beethoven sonatas performed with Cédric Tiberghien, Mendelssohn’s work recorded with her brother Pierre-Laurent Aimard , pieces of György Kurtag, with whom she has worked intensely, the complete Brahms chamber music, among many others.

Corey Averill
Teaching is a passion for Corey. His primary instrument is cello, with secondary experience with violin, viola, and bass.
He has studied cello with Yo Yo Ma, Hamilton Cheifetz, Stephanie McDougal, Hans Jørgen Jensen, Carter Brey, and violin with Dorothy Crow.
Corey attended Tanglewood Institute, Congress of Strings, and has instructed at Young Musicians and Artists, as well as numerous other organizations.
Discover Sebastian Lee’s opus 40 thanks to Corey Averill who plays it for the first time after decades spent in oblivion. Being the last opus of the series of duets for 2 cellos with progressive difficulties, opus 40 presents real challenges in the execution of its different movements. We sincerely thank Corey Averill for accepting the challenge and allowing us to broadcast his video on this site. Thanks also to Taï and Sheri Heldstab for their work on filming, editing and assisting at all stages of this project.

Maxim Kozlov
Maxim Kozlov is a Russian-born cellist who holds American citizenship and has held several principal cellist positions, including the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, and has also occasionally served as principal cellist with various other orchestras. He presently resides in Eldersburg, MD. He holds a DMA from Moscow State Conservatory and a GPD from Peabody Institute.
Kozlov was born in Yekaterinburg, where he studied cello from the age of five through completion of his master’s degree. He held several roles in orchestras, including soloist, principal cellist, and guest cellist. He first performed in the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin from 1995 to 2003, with whom he performed concerts in the United States, Canada, South America and Europe, South Korea and China. With the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, Kozlov recorded a total of 6 CDs with Claves Records, two as a soloist and six as their principal cellist. Kozlov then moved to the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra from 2005 to 2012, also occasionally performing with the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra, the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, and the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. In 2013 he traveled to Macao, China and Portugal as the guest principal cellist of the Macao Orchestra.

Antonina Zharava
Born in Belarus in a family of artists Antonina Zharava chose to settle in Paris where she leads her concert and teacher activities.
In her international career, she has been inspired by great teachers in France and abroad: Philippe Muller, Leon Fleischer, Pamela Frank, Frans Helmerson, and Gary Hoffman.
Winner of international competitions – “Dr. Louis Sigall” in Chile (2006), “Young soloist”, “FLAME” in France (2005), “Popper” in Hungary (2000), “Heran” in Czech Republic (1997), she occurs in France, Italy, the Netherlands, the United States, as well as in Eastern European countries.
She is also invited to many festivals around the world: Ravinia Festival in Chicago (USA), Festival Academy Verbier (Switzerland), The Rome Chamber Music Festival (Italy), Piatigorsky Cello Festival in Los Angeles and Heifetz Music Festival in Wolfeboro (United States).
Member-founder of Trio ARK, she has just recorded the CD “Escales” mixing traditional music and classical works.
Holder of the Certificate of Aptitude and the Public Service, Antonina Zharava teaches cello and chamber music at the Conservatories of the 6th and 13th arrondissements of Paris.
