Corey Averill

All cellists start their careers not as soloists, but as students, and good cellists could not exist without good instructors. At the age of 9, Corey Averill announced to his instructor that he wanted to become a cello instructor when he grew up. Corey has instructed at Young Musicians and Artists, ainsi que dans de nombreuses autres organisations.  Il joue et enseigne le violoncelle, la basse, le violon et l’alto. Son studio d’enseignement compte actuellement plus de 60 étudiants, âgés de 6 à 85 ans. Il joue également lors de mariages et d’événements, partageant sa passion pour le violoncelle non seulement avec ses élèves mais aussi avec le public.  Il a été un membre des orchestres de l’Oregon Ballet et de l’Oregon Opera Orchestra for over 25 years. Il est titulaire d’un Bachelor et d’une maîtrise en musique avec spécialisation en violoncelle et a étudié avec Yo-Yo Ma, Hamilton Cheifetz, Stephanie McDougal, Hans Jørgen Jensen, Carter Brey and violin with Dorothy Crow. Several of his former students now play in major symphonies and orchestras. Sharing his love of music with people, young and old, is what brings him joy in life.

Héloïse Baratin, lauréate du concours “Portrait de Sebastian Lee”

Héloïse Baratin, de son vrai nom, est née à Orléans le 2 mai 1983. 3ans après, sa famille emménage en Charente-Maritime. Y ayant vécu 11 années elle y a apprit la danse (école Florence Paumet) ainsi que le dessin et la peinture (Atelier10 de Brigitte Robin). Elle sera lauréate à plusieurs concours de dessin et/ou de peintures. Elle fut Cotée, au profit d’une association, en 1995. À 14 ans, sa famille part vivre en Bretagne et elle se met au chant (chorale de Tanguy Floc’h).

En 2001, sa famille arrive dans le Tarn-Garonne. Elle reprend ses pinceaux et entame une série d’expositions à partir de 2006. Actuellement, elle vit à Moissac et ne cesse d’élargir son genre en proposant toute une palette de tableaux.

Jean-Pierre Berrié, Directeur de l’école de musique de Castelsarrasin, musicien et chef d’orchestre. Il a été un soutien de la première heure à la création de l’association.

Derek de la Bernardie, jeune violoncelliste talentueux qui a accompagné valérie Aimard sur l’opus 37 de Sebastian Lee lors du 1er concert de l’association en Mai 2022.

Ella Bokor, founder of the MiniCellos project, Founder and Principal Organizer of the CellEAST Competition-Masterclass-festival, President of the l’association culturelle PlaCello, Professeure Associée au Département de Musique de Chambre à l’National Music University of Bucharest,Artistic coordinator at the Romanian Youth National Art Center and Cello Professor at Dinu Lipatti National College of Arts.

Elle est la fondratrice de l’PlaCello ensemble, the Duo Cello Jaya and the Ludens Piano Trio. Egalement membre de l’the Violoncellissimo ensemble et de l’National Symphony Orchestra of Romania..

With her extensive experience, talent and passion for music, Ella Bokor is a remarkable cellist and an inspiring Professor which achieve significant contributions in the world of cello and classical music.

Odile Bourin. Après une importante expérience orchestrale : violoncelle-solo à l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, nombreuses tournées avec l’Orchestre de Paris, I Solisti Veneti, La Grande Ecurie et la Chambre du Roy… under the direction of prestigious conductors, Odile Bourin decided to focus on chamber music. 

In 2002 in Japan, she’s been representing France during the Firster International Cello Festival of Kobe, and has been invited, following this event, to the Kobe 1000 cellos (2001), in Hiroshima (2010) and in Sendaï (2015)

She also participated to numerous recordings of unsung repertoire under the direction ofArmin Jordan within the Kammer Ensemble de Paris or in duo cello /piano or cello / bass.

She currently teaches in Paris at the Erik Satie Conservatoire, and is regularly invited to participate as a jury or to perform Masterclasses in Kobe, Japan, in Brescia and Falerone, Italy, in Buenos Aires, Argentina and in Roquebrune and Toulon, France.

She is the author of an acknowledged Méthode de violoncelle (in 3 volumes) and a Cahier de gammes together with 2 recueils de Chorals de Bach transcrits pour quatuor de violoncelles (1er and 2nd Cycles), all published by Editions Henry Lemoine, Paris.

En 2016, elle a breveté un accessoire qui facilite l’apprentissage de la tenue d’archet : la Solution Pédagogique Celizy® www.celizy.com.

Odile Bourin owes her beginnings to Alain Meunierand her training at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris with Philippe Muller and Christophe Coin, her improvements to Anner Bijlsma at the Conservatoire Royal de La Haye (Netherlands), and to Harvey Shapiro at the New-York Julliard School of Music and to Roland Pidoux.

In June 2020, she is nominated Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.

Jean-Jacques Desuraune, infographiste de talent, nous a accompagné dans l’aventure de l’association en proposant ses services pour les mises en page des premières partitions que nous republions. Sa collaboration au projet de réédition nous est précieuse et c’est grâce à lui que nous pouvons présenter de beaux ouvrages à la vente.

Cédric Forré, artistic teacher and performer; he is the cellist of quatuor Liger depuis 15 ans. Curieux de toutes les formes d’expressions, il développe de nombreux projets artistiques comme des Ciné-concerts dont il compose la musique.

 He is delighted to play on a Jacques Fustier cello as well as a Cabasse featuring gut strings

The not-for-profit organisation Sebastian Lee has especially appreciated his his recording of the 24 studies from opus 1311 shot and mounted daily during the first lockdown.

Francis Girard (1921-2023) (1921-2023), mélomane et mécène de l’association. Sa générosité à soutenir les différents projets pour la conservation du patrimoine musical en danger d’oubli nous permet de poursuivre les missions de l’association.

Sebastian Hartung est né en 1977 à Düsseldorf (Allemagne) et a commencé le violoncelle à l’âge de 7 ans. Il a gagné plusieurs prix dans différentes compétitions de musique de Chambre en Allemagne, telles que le Alice-Sammter Competition in Berlin the Competition of German Music Universities in Franckfurt
as well as the International Competition for Ostracized Music à Schwerin. Après avoir étudié avec Martin Rummel à l’Académie de Musique de Kassel, il part pour Berlin en 2001. Là-bas, il étudie avec Markus Nyikos à l’université des Arts dont il sort diplômé du Konzertexamen en 2006. Membre du the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra il a tourné en Europe sous la direction de Chefs d’Orchestres tels que Franz Welser-Möst ou Claudio Abbado. Il a également joué avec le Staatskapelle Weimar et l’Orchestra Ensemble à Kanazawa (Japon). En aparllèle de son poste à l’Orchestre Symphonique de Bochum, Sebastian a étudié le violoncelle Baroque Kristin von derGoltz à l’école Hoch pout la Musique et le Spectacle Vivant à Frankfurt. Depuis il a régulièrement été invité à jouer dans différents Festivals de Musiques Anciennes tel que le Festival Handel à Halle.

Sheri Heldstab aime la musique bien composée de presque tous les genres. Elle a commencé à jouer du violoncelle à l’âge de 9 ans, mais les circonstances de sa vie ne lui ont pas permis de continuer à jouer.  Pendant 20 ans, elle a dit à son mari qu’à sa retraite, elle jouerait à nouveau du violoncelle. Elle a ensuite hérité d’un violoncelle, a pris sa retraite après 30 ans de carrière en chimie et a recommencé à réapprendre à jouer.  Son maître lui fait découvrir les œuvres de Sebastian Lee et, quelques années plus tard, elle découvre l’association Sebastian Lee pour la conservation du patrimoine musical en danger d’oubli.  Souhaitant avoir découvert l’Association plus tôt, elle les a contactés et leur a proposé ses services en tant que traductrice.  Elle espère que ses traductions aideront beaucoup d’autres violoncellistes à découvrir le génie des compositions de Sebastian Lee.


Igor Kiritchenko, born in Ukraine, he studies in Odessa, Moscou and Paris especially with Valentin Berlinsky (Quatuor Borodine) and Hatto Beyerle (Quatuor Alban Berg).

Winner of the International cello competition in Belgrade, he becomes a member of the Quatuor Anton and wins with this formation the Grand Prix au Concours International d'Evianle Prix du Jury de la Presse Internationale, le Prix Spécial de la SACEM,  le Premier Prix au Concours International Chostakovitch à St. Pétersbourg ainsi que le Prix Spécial pour la meilleure interprétation de la musique russe.

Il s’est produit dans les salles les plus prestigieuses: Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Théâtre de la Ville, Salle Gaveau, Herkulessaal (Munich), Salle Verdi (Milan), Barbican Center (Londres), Académie Santa Cécilia (Rome), Metropolitan Art Hall (Tokyo)…

 Mstislav Rostropovitch has invited him to participate to the Prokofiev Festival and Festival de Prokofiev and Sviatoslav Richter to the Festival Soirées de Décembre.

 In chamber music, he has performed with musicians of international reputation such as Yuri Bashmet, Gérard Caussé, Philippe Bianconi, E. Naoumov, les Quatuors Borodine, Manfred, Ravel, Debussy.

Founding member of the Quatuor Elysée, Trio Alta, Trio Equinox, Juon Project and Trio AriosoIgor Kiritchenko has recorded over 20 discs as well as participating to numerous recordings for the radio and television.

Maxim Kozlov is a Russian-born cellist who holds American citizenship and has held several principal cellist positions, including the Chamber Orchestra Kremlinor the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra.  Il a reçu le second prix du Conservatoire National de Moscou en 1993 et est diplômé du Peabody Institute.  En 2001 il participe à la Polyphony of the World as a member of "Kremerata Baltica". He was a member of the highly applauded Monument Piano Trio with other Peabody Conservatory graduates Peabody Conservatoryafter moving to South Dakota, he became a member of the Dakota String Quartet. Maxim has also performed as an accompanist to Adam Golka, Paul Sanchez and Alessio Bax in the 2011 and 2012 at the Dakota Sky International Piano festivals. Read his full biography here

Mircea Marian, est un membre de l’Romanian Radio Chamber Orchestracello and chamber music Professor at the‘Université Nationale de Musique de Bucharest, and at the Dinu Lipatti National College of Art, membre de l’PlaCello ensemble, du Duo Cello Jaya, du Larson Trio, du Duo Serafim, de l’the Violoncellissimo ensemble and the Profile Quartet

He performed as Soloist with orchestras from Romania and abroad including: Philharmonisches Orchester Altenburg Gera, the Romanian National Radio Orchestra, the Radio Chamber Orchestra and the University Orchestra de Graz, en Autriche.

Mircea participated in various festivals and educational projects such as: George Enescu International Festival, ICon Arts, SoNoRo International Festival, SoNoRo Interferences, Meridian Festival, IS Potsdamer Innenstadt Festival, Simn Festival, Intrada International Festival, Mozartissimo Festival et le European Music Open Festival.

Il est considéré comme l’un des meilleurs interprètes du répertoire contemporain des pièces musicales pour violoncelle et de musique de chambre Roumains.

En tant que soliste et membre de multiples ensembles de musique de chambre, il a enregistré des CDs et a participé à des enregistrements spéciaux avec le Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company.

Mathieu Moriconi, cellist and cello teacher, he contributed in a major way to the creation of this not-for-profit organisation in making his students discover Sebastian Lee and in contributing to the various projects of the association in offering his musical skills and abilities to support our mission in the work of copying, correction, and technical aspects of the presentation of scores. His support and encouragements have greatly contributed to the birth of this project.

Cette nouvelle édition a été republiée d’après la 1ère édition de l’ouvrage de Sebastian Lee, parue en 1855. Martin Rummel a ajouté quelques doigtés, coups d’archet ainsi que quelques indications de liaisons en indiquant ses marques éditoriales afin que les joueurs voient immédiatement les altérations effectuées au texte original. Naoki Tsurusaki, was born in Japan in 1953, He was First Cello at the Opéra national de Lyon. In 2004 he recorded a CD of the complete Bach Cello Suites during a live concert, obtaining rewards from the japanese music magazines.

He left The Opéra de Lyon in 2011 and moved to Tokyo in order to pursue his career as a solo artist and a teacher. On the same year, he performs a series of six recitals in Tokyo including the unabridged sonatas from Beethoven, Fauré, and Brahms, with Ichiro Nodaira, and Akiko Ebi as pianists.

Interested by composition since childhood, he studies hamony and composition at the Tokyo University of Arts (Geidai). Son catalogue inclus des compositions telles qu’ “Impromptu” pour quatre violoncelles, “Impromptu II” pour violon, deux clarinettes et violoncelle, “Mémoire d’un paysage” for clarinet and piano, “Deux Ricercare” pour violoncelle seul, “So ephemerical...” pour violoncelle et piano, ainsi que des mélodies. Passionnée de musique et de violoncelle, elle est fan de Sebastian Lee et de Nirvana. Après une éducation musicale fugace de 2 ans au Conservatoire de Colombes (92) quand elle avait 12 ans, elle devient en 2001 journaliste musicale spécialisée dans le métal pour les titres Rock Sound et Guitar Parts, puis, désabusée par les rockstars et le “Milieu”, elle papillonnera dans différents groupes de rock au succès discrets, tour à tour chanteuse, guitariste, bassiste ou batteuse dans un esprit plutôt “Bérus”. En 2005, elle monte un magazine de musique appelé “String” avec son amie Jade Petit, photographe et journaliste. Puis, en 2010, elle fera une tentative de DJing parallèlement à sa carrière professionnelle lors de son expatriation au Royaume-Uni. Ce sera l’occasion pour elle d’établir un fait indéniable: les musiques électroniques ont également leurs lots de difficultés. Elle attendra 30 ans après la fin du conservatoire avant de reprendre le chemin de l’école en 2019 pour poursuivre son apprentissage du violoncelle avec son Bon Maître Mathieu Moriconi à l’école de Musique de Castelsarrasin (82). C’est ce dernier qui lui fait découvrir les œuvres de Sebastian Lee dont les pièces de musique semblent toutes plus merveilleuse les unes que les autres. En 2022, bien décidée à reconstituer son catalogue et à chasser les opus manquants, elle lance l’association Sebastian Lee pour la conservation du patrimoine musical en danger d’oubli en espérant susciter l’enthousiasme et engager des projets collaboratifs autour des musiques en danger d’oubli.

He plays and teaches cello, bass, violin, and viola.  His teaching studio currently has over 60 students, ranging in age from 6 to 85 years old.  He also plays at weddings and events, sharing his passion for cello not only with his students but also with the public.  He was a member of the Oregon Ballet Orchestra and the Oregon Opera Orchestra for over 25 years.  He has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Music with emphasis on cello, and studied with Yo-Yo Ma, Hamilton Cheifetz, Stephanie McDougal, Hans Jørgen Jensen, Carter Brey, and violin with Dorothy Crow.  Several of his former students now play in major symphonies and orchestras.  Sharing his love of music with people, young and old, is what brings him joy in life.

Cédric Forré, artistic teacher and performer; he is the cellist of quatuor Liger since 2007. Curious about all forms of expression, he develops many artistic projects such as the Movie-concerts for which he composes music.

Sebastian Hartung

Sebastian Hartung was born in 1977 in Düsseldorf (Germany) and received his first cello lessons at the age of seven. He won prizes at several chamber music competitions in Germany, such as the Alice-Sammter Competion, the Eisler-Competition in Berlin, the Competition of German Music Universities in Frankfurt, as well as the International Competition for Ostracized Music in Schwerin. After studying with Martin Rummel at the Music Academy in Kassel he relocated to Berlin in 2001. Here he studied with Markus Nyikos at the Universität der Künste, graduating with the Konzertexamen in 2006. As a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra he has toured throughout Europe under such conductors as Franz Welser-Möst or Claudio Abbado. He also played with the Staatskapelle Weimar and the Orchestra Ensemble in Kanazawa (Japan). Parallel to his current position with the Bochum Symphony Orchestra, Sebastian studied baroque cello with Kristin von der Goltz at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt. Since then, he has been frequently invited to perform at festivals for Early Music such as the Handel Festival in Halle.

Sheri Heldstab loves well-composed music of almost any genre.  She started playing cello at age 9, but life circumstances did not allow her to continue playing.  For 20 years, she told her husband that when she retired, she was going to play cello again.  She then inherited a cello, retired from a 30-year career in chemistry, and started to learn to play again.  Her instructor introduced her to the works of Sebastian Lee, and a couple of years later, she discovered the Sebastian Lee Association for the Conservation of Musical Heritage in Danger of Being Lost.  Wishing that she had found the Association earlier, she reached out to them and offered her services as a translator.  She hopes that her translations will help many more cellists discover Sebastian Lee’s genius for composition.

Igor Kiritchenko, born in Ukraine, he studies in Odessa, Moscou and Paris especially with Valentin Berlinsky (Borodine Quartet) and Hatto Beyerle (Alban Berg Quatuor).

Winner of the International cello competition in Belgrade, he becomes a member of the Anton Quatuor (1989-1995) and wins with this formation the Grand Prix at the Concours International d’Evianthe prize from the Jury of international Media, the Special Prize from SACEM,  the First Prize at the Chostakovitch international competition in St Petersburg as well as the Special Prize for the best interpretation of Russian music.

He has performed in the most prestigious venues: Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Théâtre de la Ville, Salle Gaveau, Herkulessaal (Munchen), Il Teatro Verdi (Milan), Barbican Center (Londres), Academia Santa Cécilia (Rome), Metropolitan Art Hall (Tokyo)…

Mstislav Rostropovitch has invited him to participate to the Prokofiev Festival and Sviatoslav Richter to the December’s Evenings Festival.

In chamber music, he has performed with musicians of international reputation such as Yuri Bashmet, Gérard Caussé, Philippe Bianconi, E. Naoumov, the Borodine Quatuor, Manfred Quatuor, Ravel Quatuor, and Debussy Quartuor.

Founding member of the Elysée Quatuor, Trio Alta, Trio Equinox, Juon Project and Trio Arioso, Igor Kiritchenko has recorded over 20 discs as well as participating to numerous recordings for the radio and television.

Maxim Kozlov is a Russian-born cellist who holds American citizenship and has held several principal cellist positions, including the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, and has also occasionally served as principal cellist with various other orchestras. He presently resides in Eldersburg, MD. He holds a DMA from Moscow State Conservatory and a GPD from Peabody Institute.

Kozlov was born in Yekaterinburg, where he studied cello from the age of five through completion of his master’s degree. He held several roles in orchestras, including soloist, principal cellist, and guest cellist. He first performed in the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin from 1995 to 2003, with whom he performed concerts in the United States, Canada, South America and Europe, South Korea and China. With the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, Kozlov recorded a total of 6 CDs with Claves Records, two as a soloist and six as their principal cellist. Kozlov then moved to the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra from 2005 to 2012, also occasionally performing with the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra, the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, and the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. In 2013 he traveled to Macao, China and Portugal as the guest principal cellist of the Macao Orchestra.

Mathieu Moriconi, cellist and cello teacher, he contributed in a major way to the creation of this not-for-profit organisation in making his students discover Sebastian Lee and in contributing to the various projects of the association in offering his musical skills and abilities to support our mission in the work of copying, correction, and technical aspects of the presentation of scores. His support and encouragements have greatly contributed to the birth of this project.

Martin Rummel also republished Sebastian Lee’s opus 70 “40 Easy Etudes for Violoncello with an Accompaniment of a 2nd Violoncello (ad lib.)” He has based his new edition on the first edition of Sebastian Lee’s (1805–1887) etudes from 1855; he has sparingly added fingering, bow strokes and slurs indicating them editorially so players can immediately see the textural alterations.

Naoki Tsurusaki was born in Japan in 1953, He was First Cello at the Opéra national de Lyon. In 2004 he recorded a CD of the six cello Suites from Bach during a live concert, obtaining rewards from the japanese music magazines.

He left The Opéra de Lyon in 2011 and moved to Tokyo in order to pursue his career as a solo artist and a teacher. On the same year, he performs a series of six recitals in Tokyo including the unabridged sonatas from Beethoven, Fauré, and Brahms, with Ichiro Nodaira, and Akiko Ebi as pianists.

Interested by composition since childhood, he studies hamony and composition at the Tokyo University of Arts (Geidai). His catalogue includes pieces such as “Impromptu” for four cellos, “Impromptu II” for violon, two clarinets and cello, “Memory of a landscape” for clarinet and piano, “Two Ricercare” for cello solo, “So, ephemerical …” for cello and piano, as well as melodies. He has produced many transcriptions, such as the “Goldberg Variations” from J.S Bach for string trio, « Tableaux d’une exposition » from Moussorgski  for string orchestra published by Zen-On. Also available with the same publisher, he composed the second line of cello and some edit on the studies of opus 31 of Sebastian Lee (available at Schott Music)

He has studied cello and Chamber Music at the Tokyo University of Arts (Geidai) and then at the Paris CNCMD with Reine FlachotMaurice Gendron, and Maurice Crut.

Passionate about music and cello, she is fan of Sebastian Lee and the Nirvana band. After an ephemeral music education of 2 years at the Colombes Music Conservatoire (Hauts-deSeine, France) when she was 12, she becomes a musical reporter in 2001, specialised in Metal for titles such as Rock Sound and Guitar Parts. Then, disappointed by rockstars and the music industry, she flitted around in various rock bands with rather discreet success, alternately singer, guitare player, bassist or drummer in a “Punk spirit” (mastery of the instrument has to be intuitive and fast, the rest will come from the heart). In 2005, she creates a musical magazine called “String” with her friend Jade Petit, photograph and reporter. In 2010, she attempted to take some DJing classes in parallel to a busy professional career while living and working in the UK. This will be the opportunity to establish an undeniable fact: electronic music also have their lots of difficulties. She will wait 30 odd years after quitting the Music Conservatoire before getting back to Music School and learning the cello again with her Master Mathieu Moriconi in Castelsarrasin (Tarn-et-Garonne, France). It is him that made her discover the music of Sebastian Lee whose opus seem more marvallous one another. In 2022, decided to rebuild the catalog of Sebastian Lee’s missing opus, she launches the not-for-profit organisation Sebastian Lee for the conservation of music patrimony in danger of being forgotten, in the hope of generating enthusiasm and engage in collaborative projects about music in danger of being forgotten.
